Knowing that One
'Knowing that one' consists of mental structures for right opinion:
- Recognitive: select the unique Q from not-Q and not-Q from Q.
- Acquaintive: identify relations determinate of the unique Q.
- Appreciative: identify relations appropriate of the unique Q.
Maccia (1988) described 'knowing that one' as follows:
Intelligent natural systems index the incomparable features of uniques. Such intelligence does not identify the particulars of a class, i.e., things of a kind, but discrerns things that are of no kind. Thus, logical operations in recognition, acquaintance, or appreciation sort things that are of none other. Such operators do not negate. They index conspicuous features of perceived persons, places or things. (p. 1)
Q is the unique object of knowing.
